Aena Infrastructure Department has started the project for the “Comprehensive Remodeling of the Terminal Area” of Tenerife South Airport, with a completion period between 2024 and 2034 and an investment of more than 300,000,000.00 €.
Viarium, in consortium with Gesnaer, will be in charge of the Project Management technical assistance for this ambitious project.
The Tenerife South Airport remodeling project is an ambitious and far-reaching initiative that aims to transform and modernize one of the main gateways to the Canary Islands. This project not only focuses on upgrading the existing infrastructure, but also seeks to expand the airport's operational capabilities to meet passenger demand and improve the overall user experience. This contract managed by Viarium is part of the integral remodeling project of the terminal area of Tenerife South Airport, included in the DORA III proposal. This initiative represents an estimated initial investment of more than 300 million euros, aimed at significantly transforming and modernizing the airport.
The project aims to integrate the entire terminal area, not only from an architectural perspective but also harmonizing it with its surroundings. This transformation will provide a smoother and more pleasant experience for passengers. Planned improvements, pending the drafting of the final project, include:
- New parking lots and accesses: Improving convenience and accessibility for travelers.
- Review of urbanization and landscaping: Creating greener and more pleasant spaces.
- Adequacy of the baggage claim room: Streamlining the process and improving comfort.
- Expansion of check-in and boarding areas: Reducing waiting times and facilitating passenger flow.
- Incorporation of more commercial services: Offering a wider variety of stores and restaurants to enrich the travelers' experience.
To manage this project and other complementary works, Viarium will take on four key areas: project management, technical management, specialized technical service and BREEAM certification.
- Project Management (PM) This service will be in charge of coordinating and managing all the necessary actions for the development of the projects at Tenerife South Airport. It will include the creation of a Project Management Office (PMO) that will organize and define the hierarchical structures, as well as a Responsibility Matrix for all participants.
- Technical Project Management This area will focus on the technical direction and advice during the execution of the works. It will supervise and review the construction projects, prepare the necessary documentation and coordinate with all the companies involved.
- Specialized Technical Service: Specialized technical coordination will be provided in various areas of airport knowledge such as engineering, maintenance, safety, security, operations, ICT and commercial. This will ensure that projects comply with operational and functional parameters from drafting to execution, ensuring the quality of service to passengers:
- BREEAM Certification: This service will focus on obtaining BREEAM® ES certification, ensuring that the project meets high sustainability standards. It includes advice and consultancy to achieve at least a “Very Good” rating.
The implementation of this comprehensive solution will ensure that the remodeling project meets cost, schedule and quality objectives, aligning with the airport's functional and operational needs. BIM (Building Information Modeling) methodology will be used to improve coordination during the construction phase, ensuring safety and control, and increasing efficiency in infrastructure management and maintenance.
